Marion Erickson announces call for artworks on YouTube
ISC and NCCIH communicable disease control health messaging through art proposal
Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and the National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health (NCCIH) are seeking artworks by Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Organizations to feature in upcoming communicable disease prevention and awareness campaigns, social media, key messaging and other resources. Art submissions may address communicable disease topics including vaccine preventable diseases (VPD), immunizations, sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBBI), communicable disease emergencies (CDE), tuberculosis (TB), and infection prevention and control as it relates to communicable diseases.
We will provide a $100 honorarium for every individual submission that meets the criteria and $250 for group submissions. The top three submissions will each receive a grand prize of $4,000.
Honoraria will be provided for qualifying submissions on a first-come, first-served basis until available funds have been fully distributed. Only one submission will be accepted per applicant.
The new deadline for submissions is Friday, February 14, 2025.
Guidelines and criteria for submission:
- Art media: Submissions may be in any art form, including drawing, painting, textiles, sculpture, storytelling, poetry, dance, music, and more.
- Submission format: Only high-resolution JPEG images (for visual art) or MP4 recordings (for time-based media) will be accepted. Images and recordings must be original and taken by the artist. Generative AI (artificial intelligence) artworks will not be accepted.
- Theme and content: Artworks should be communicable disease-focused, promotional, inclusive, family-friendly (PG-rated), and bias-free.
- Indigenous perspective: Submissions should reflect Indigenous perspectives and experiences related to health and wellness.
- Ownership and usage rights: Artists retain copyright over their work while granting ISC and NCCIH permission to use submissions in communicable disease health promotion campaigns, with the understanding that submissions for which an honorarium is paid may be featured in current or future campaigns.
- One submission per person/group: Only one submission per individual or group will be accepted.
- Consent for individuals in submissions: If artworks include other individuals, each person featured must sign a release waiver. For participants under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign on their behalf.
- Language: Artworks are welcome in Indigenous languages, English, and French. If not in English or French, please provide a translation or detailed description of the artwork for context.
Submission process:
Submit all images and/or videos along with the artwork release waiver(s) through the large file sharing service, WeTransfer:
- Navigate to the Wetransfer website
- Upload your media (JPEG or MP4)
- Upload your signed artwork release waivers
(Download your choice: PDF print and scan or PDF fillable form)
- Input our email address: nccih@unbc.ca
- Input your email address
- A link will be generated and sent to NCCIH for us to download your artwork within seven days
A selection committee will be reviewing and evaluating the submissions based on the criteria mentioned above prior to providing an honorarium to ensure all criteria have been met.
