Beginning from the premise that health promotion must be consistent with Indigenous values, attitudes, and aspirations to be useful to Indigenous Peoples, the authors develop an Indigenous model of health promotion for New Zealand, based on their world views and perspectives of health. They identify four key areas of health that health promotion should be consistent with: the natural environment and environmental protection, cultural identity and access to the Mäori world, well-being and health lifestyles, and full participation in the wider society.
