In this article, the authors provide an overview of the evidence on selenium deficiency, adequacy, and implications for human health and dietary recommendations. They argue that public health recommendations on selenium should be re-evaluated and reconsidered given that Inuit populations often exceed dietary tolerable upper intake levels due to their dependence on local country foods, where selenium is found in the less toxic compound of selenoneine.
