This article discusses evidence suggesting current maternity services in Australia and relocation for birth are culturally, socially, and emotionally unsatisfactory and unsafe, and implications of the failure to acknowledge or incorporate Indigenous knowledge around birthing. The author argues that more robust dialogue around the construction of risk and its importance in the birthing environment is needed, particularly for Aboriginal women.
