Indigenous Circle of Experts.
In 2017, an Indigenous Circle of Experts convened to discuss Indigenous-led conservation and Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs). This report outlines the colonial history of Canadian parks, defines IPCAs and provides recommendations for Canada to meet international conservation communitments through supporting IPCAs. It describes IPCAs as a pathway toward biodiversity conservation and healthier ecosystems, which in turn provides health benefits to all Canadians in the form of clean air and water, improved human health, and mitigation of risks from climate change and disease.
